When W98 was my primary system, I did not install it as you did. Instead, I
used a floppy start up disk and the W98 CD and never had any problems.

I appreciate the suggestion, but can anyone respond more
specifically to the substance of my OP? If you and others have
been using it for years, what is the procedure for installing
win98 on it's own primary partition from install cab files on
another drive? Is it necessary to have dos installed on the
install partition prior to installing win98? I received no error
messages only a hang on the opening screen. WHen I checked the c:
drive I found that several install files had been installed, but
apparently the install stalled since I waited about 5 minutes for
the hourglass to proceed and nothing. No error messages either.
It almost appear as if win98 is trying to access the mbr that bing
has altered and is having trouble with the bing embr. So if you've
been using both for years, seems to me they should be able to answer
the substance of the post, but maybe not.
