Well here's where we a Everything I can find on this message, which is
common to many laptops that use the same Hibernation system... All roads
lead to those same instructions you already tried. The file that the message
suggests you run, if you could read the whole message, is "HDPREP (or
HDPREPEZ), or 'AMI Save to File Utility'". That would prepare the hard drive
by creating a special partition to hold Hibernation data. But you have to
prep the HD *before* you turn on the feature, and you have to turn off the
feature to make it let you boot if the HD isn't prepped properly.

In short, I'm not sure I can take you any farther. If there is no possible
power management option that fits the bill, I have to wonder if someone
tried to update the BIOS and screwed up. I dunno, nothing quite makes sense.
All I know is that it's the BIOS that's holding you up, and it's holding you
up because it can't find the hibernation partition.

Hmmm... I suppose you could try taking out the HD, putting it into a
desktop, and run the HDPREP program, then put it back in the laptop. Would
be a complicated operation (gotta make sure only the laptop HD gets
"prepped", which might mean having to disable the rest of the HDs in the
machine and use a bootable floppy setup disk to run the HDPREP utility.

But it all comes back to BIOS should have that setting, and if it doesn't,
nothing makes sense. Sorry, but I don't think I could come up with anything
else without the machine in front of me. I'd want to take the disk out and
put it into another machine to see what partitions there are, and I'd want
to positively identify the motherboard and determine if it was possible to
find a BIOS version for it that has the proper settings...

Just doesn't make any sense.

Not sure exactly what make this thing is.No markings on case.
The only info is on a plate on bottom of system and it's stated "Personal
Computer Model No. N340S8".
Another problem is that this was donated and they isn't any disks, etc.
that came with it.

You run BOOTITNG.EXE on the system you used to download it, and it
make's its own bootable floppy (or CD.) You then put that floppy in the
problem machine and boot to it. Once it finishes loading, the first
dialogue you get will be to install BootIt NG (BING) and that's where
you Cancel the installation.

I'm confused, when you say to make a bootable floopy unless you're
taking about something other than the one I create with win98se.
Also, run Bootitng.exe--- how when the system locks up even though I
have the bootable floopy in the drive.

Sorry, that download from BootIt NG is a ZIP file. Unzip that to a
new folder and then run BOOTITNG.EXE file in that folder.

My suggestion is to get a copy of BootIt NG from www.bootitng.com.
No need to pay, just download the EXE, make a bootable floppy or CD
installer, reboot to the floppy or CD and then CANCEL THE
INSTALLATION! That will drop you into Maintenance Mode where you can
choose Partition Work. See what's listed there in the middle panel.
More than just the one partition where you installed Win98? If so,
please list them for us here, including name, size, type.

I've tried to use the startup floppy that was created during Win
install but no go.
