Default HDD install not detected

If you start the PC with no HDD can you press DEL and get the BIOS setup
menu ? In the BIOS options you can tell it to ignore an HDD by setting
the drive type to 'none'. This should be the same as physically
removing the new HDD. Will Win98 start now ?

To update the BIOS you will need to make a DOS boot floppy and then get
the BIOS file and a flash program from the ASUS site. The site also has
instructions. Hopefully the BIOS date will be after Sept 2000 and/or
the notes will mention 'overcomes 75GB limit'.

What is the actual product ID of your motherboard ?
