Default OT - Windows Visa

I have just seen BBC TV's programme on the launch of the new OS. After a few
minutes my brain switched of thanks to over use of "WOW" continuing ad
nausea.

There was no demonstration of Vista and the whole thing looked like trying
to sell me any other piece of consumer ware. "Listen to what I say, no you
can't try it out, yes it's perfect, no there are no defects .....". Have you
ever tried to buy ANY electrical product without some salesman (sorry
salesperson) flashing through the "features" of the product faster than the
eye or brain can follow?

What is the next piece of bloatware Microsoft are going to inflict on us?
What security fixes will the hackers force on MS?

Personally, I will not be upgrading to Vista; especially at the vastly
inflated price the UK will see (2x the US price). Indeed, if ME had not been
pre-installed together with software I deemed worthwhile, I would have
installed Win98 on the box I bought some seven years ago.

Is there any advantage over 98 that ME, XP and now Vista has? All I want, is
to switch on my box and word process, spreadsheet, surf, email and play
patience (sorry solitaire) in a completely transparent manner.

I would have liked to send faxes from my computer, but one of the
"improvements" of ME, was to remove the fax application that was part of
Win98. What other facilities have been done away with?

I guess this shows me up as a dinosaur but then as a 68 y/o I suppose I am.
Until my box crashes completely or the PSU blows up or some other terminal
mishap takes place, I will keep on with my ME based outfit.

When that time comes, I will have to buy a pre-loaded Vista box. (unless by
then the next ultimate improvement has arrived. Is XP shorter lived than its
predecessors?)

If anybody out there sees this as a rant, I suppose it is. But any comments
not too insulting will be welcome. If you just want to flame, then ignore
this post. I will ignore your insults.
