Default clean install of Win2K

I'm starting to wonder whether the problem is a defective or failing hard
disk as this could explain the registry errors being seen and also
possibly the other problems. Alternatively a problem with RAM. You can
check your RAM for yourself using a program like DocMemory 2.0 which can
be downloaded free
http://www.simmtester.com/page/products/doc/docinfo.asp. This program can
be extracted to a floppy and I would then suggest leaving it running for
a couple of hours to see what errors, if any, it reports. If none, then
you can discount memory as being the cause of the problem.

Like Mart I'm also a little intrigued by
... When I reboot it goes right into the start up menu
with Command Prompt highlighted.

What menu are you referring to here? The Win Me Startup Menu doesn't have
an option to boot to a Command Prompt the options being 1. Normal 2.
Logged 3. Safe Mode and 4. Step-by-step confirmation. Perhaps I'm missing
something not having followed your previous thread.

Hi Mart, yes I did do a clean install, FDISK (erased partition,
created new single partition, then a FORMAT (FAT32). Also, when the
recovery CDs start they also do a FORMAT and then install Win Me and
all the drivers. So, I believe I'm cleaning out the hard drive.
Thanks.
