Did you try KB834707, Brian A? I'm trying to figure...

• An update rollup is available for Internet Explorer 6 SP1
(873377) - Update rollup 873377 includes security update 834707,
documented in Microsoft security bulletin MS04-038, and Internet
Explorer 6 SP1 hotfixes released after security update 832894
(MS04-004).

....Quote....................
SUMMARY
Internet Explorer 6 service pack 1 (SP1) hotfixes that were released
after Microsoft security bulletin MS04-004 may not be included in the
834707 security update that is documented in Microsoft security bulletin
MS04-038. Update rollup 873377 includes the cumulative security fixes
that are in security update 834707. Update rollup 873377 also includes
Internet Explorer 6 SP1 hotfixes that were released after Microsoft
security bulletin MS04-004. Update rollup 873377 is available from the
Microsoft Download Center. You must install update rollup 873377 if you
require one or more of the Internet Explorer 6 SP1 (Version
6.00.2800.1106) hotfixes that are listed in the...
http://support.microsoft.com/default...n-us;873377#18
"List of fixes included in this update rollup" section.

Note If you are not running Internet Explorer 6 SP1 (Version
6.00.2800.1106), you do not need update rollup 873377. Instead, you can
install the 834707 security update that is documented in Microsoft
security bulletin MS04-038. The 834707 security update for other
versions of Internet Explorer includes hotfixes that were released after
security update 832894. The 834707 security update also includes the
cumulative security fixes that are documented in Microsoft security
bulletin MS04-038.
....EOQ of article..........

I wonder whether I should have taken 873377 instead of 834707, but
873377 was never offered at Windows Update. GEEZ. I guess I don't have
any of the symptoms in that "List of fixes...".

So, well, here I go... I'm taking 834707 now!

Right click MyComputer
Click Properties Device Manager tab
Remove any/all instances of the mouse

Ever since I installed the above MS patch (may be coincidece) I have
been unable to use my mouse (Intellimouse). I have tried downloading
the latest driver, but this doesn't seem to work. I have checked the
physical mouse and that is OK. Sometimes, when the PC is at the login
screen the mouse will work (sometimes erraticly), but then stops when
it starts loading applications as part of the login procedure.
Othertimes the PC warns that there is no device attached.
Any ideas???
