Default Quick Time Explorer

Heather,

The unchecked entry is unimportant since the file it refers to is no
longer present. This is where the cleanup button on Win Me's Msconfig |
Startup can be useful although it also can remove wanted entries such as
point32.exe from Microsoft's Intellipoint. Normally I use regedit to
remove such dead entries.

Using regedit, unchecked (rather than checked) items may be found as
follows depending upon the entry in "Loaded from" in MSConfig | Startup.
Browse in the LH pane clicking the + signs until you get to the required
key and in the RH pane you will see any values stored in that key together
with their associated data. Unwanted values can be deleted.
HKCU = HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKLM = HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

[Registry (Per-User Run)]
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run-

[Registry (Machine Run)]
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run-

[Registry (Machine Service)]
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run Services-

In addition unchecked items may also appear in either

[Common Startup Group]
C:\Windows\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Disabled Startup Items
or
[Startup Group]
C:\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Disabled Startup Items

and finally an unchecked [run=] entry in Win.ini will appear as a
norun=???? entry in the [windows] section of the file win.ini. Sometimes
you might also come across a noload entry.

Mart.....removing QuickTime is darn near impossible. With Noel's
help, I got rid of most of it, but it still shows up in Startup
(unchecked) and also in a Registry Scan. I delete the "qt" files and
they come back.

I just used RegEdit and can see nothing with "qt or quicktime" under
software, so not sure where it is hiding.
