Whether it is better or not is a matter of personal opinion.

Some people will have an aversion to disclosing such information
to a relatively unknown and rather anonymous web site.

Any web site you visit is able to determine your IP address.
Otherwise it can't send you pages.


True. I was trying to indicate that some people would just as soon
not contact sites they know little or nothing about.

And what do you mean by
a "rather anonymous" web site? You know (or can find out)
as much about it as most other sites.


That does you no good if the site is a rogue.

If you're a typical surfer, you're going to visit a lot
of "relatively unknown" sites.
