Default V-Cache settings

That setting will stop Windows 98 from producing false "out of memory"
type errors that result when Windows attempts to map an excessively
large amount of RAM for use as disk cache.

Once you get up into the 1 gb range and beyond with total RAM you do
run the risk of other errors that are caused by hardware interactions
(the exact cause has never been precisely defined). These errors are
rare when there is only 1 gb of RAM but become more common as you
increase the RAM beyond 1 gb.

For this type of situation it is necessary to use a MaxPhysPage
limitation in the [386enh] section of the system.ini, or just reduce
the total installed RAM. The need for the MaxPhysPage parameter is
mostly encountered on systems that are dual booting with Windows XP
(or Vista) and Windows 98, and have a fairly large amount of RAM
installed for use by Windows XP/Vista.

Insofar as I am aware there has never been a documented instance of
anyone successfully using Windows 98 on a computer with more than 1.5
gb of RAM installed unless the MaxPhysPage parameter is used.

Good luck
