Dang! You've described the problem I'm having to a Tee. Doesn't shut
down
properly, Ctrl-Alt-Delete doesn't respond, screen goes black with no "It
is
safe to shut down..." and all kinds of difficulty getting the computer
running again. I'm beginning to think this patch was a serious mistake.

If you would, please, un-check KB891711 from the startup list of programs
and see if shutdown and restart work any better. It made all the difference
in the world to me.
