Mike,
Ok, last night I was able to use Trend Micro to do a scan, but it wasn't
able to find anything.
I can boot up in safe mode, but I still cannot use the start button. I
will try the rstrui.exe file tonight - thanks so much. I'll keep you apprised.

You can try launching the file rstrui.exe which is located in
C:\Windows\system32\restore. Alternatively can you boot to Safe Mode? If
so, do you have the same problems accessing the Start button, etc?
Please let us know how you get on. Remember to roll back to a checkpoint
created before the problem began which might not necessarily be the most
recent.
Best of luck,

Mike,
Thanks so much for your response. I only have limited
functionality with the programs, so I'm not sure if I will be able to
run a scan for malware or hot.
Also, normally I would do system restore by going through the Start
button, but the Start button is nonfunctional. DOS commands work, or
I can go into the Windows folder - is there some other way of using
system restore other than using the Start button?
