About 90% of the time the CD player won't play cd's I've
recorded. They play fine on other PC's. Original CD's will
play. Hardware is DVD-ROM. Plays DVD's fine also using
PowerDVD. Most of the time I put in the recorded audio CD
it is not detected. I can hear the drive spin a few times,
then quit. I have hunted and found these same symptons
listed elsewhere, but never a solution, hopefully one will
be found here.

Some DVD-rom drives are just not compatible with CD-R discs. It has do to
with the laser. Good DVD-rom drives have two different lasers to read
different types of discs. Your drive probably has just one laser for
reading DVD discs.

With that said, there is a solution. Many times CD-RW discs work in DVD-rom
drives that don't work with CD-R discs. It has to do with the reflectivity
of the CD-RW discs. It closly matches a DVD, so that it's within the
tolerances of the drive.

Thanks for the tip, it sounds promising since the DVD drive is a bargin unit.
I'll give the rw a try.
