Ben, just taking your last point ONLY:-

Boot from your floppy Startup Disk and select CD-ROM
support.
Note the (temporary) drive letter(s) allocated to the CD-
ROM(s)
Decide which you are going to use and insert the WinMe CD.

Then at the A:\ prompt, type:-
X: (Return) where X = the CD-ROM drive letter
of your choice
above
Your screen should then show X:\ as the new prompt

Then type:-
setup (Return)

The WinMe setup/installation/re-installation process
should now commence.
