Good morning Alan,

I don't think there is any misunderstanding. I did delete
the Wordpad key in the left-hand pane and then restarted my
system. Thank you for asking for clarification.

OK. Just in case there are misunderstandings, you must

delete the
Wordpad key completely in the left-hand pane of Regedit

and not just
remove any values in the right-hand pane and then restart

in case it
is needed.

Again Alan, thanks for your help. Maybe someone else

No other suggestions to fix the problem if you have

deleted the
Registry key completely.

Wordpad is not meant to be in Add/Remove-Windows Setup.
WordPad is not included in Add / Remove Programs

utility
as an
installable program in Windows Millennium, this is by

design.

Hi again Alan,

Before following your procedure I looked at KB 218632

to
see
what it had to say. Since it talked about both

Wordpad
and
Paint I attempted to open Paint and got message

"MSPaint
has
caused an error....".

When I went to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs,

Windows
Setup, Accessories, Details the things listed were
Calulator, Desktop Wallpaper, Document Templates,

Imaging,
Paint, and Screen Savers (notice absence of Wordpad).

I unchecked Paint then went to regedit per your and KB
instructions where I deleted the Applets\Wordpad and
Applets\Paint. Then I returned to Control Panel,

Add/Remove
Programs, Windows Setup, Accessories, Details and put

a
check by Paint (again I point out that Wordpad is not

listed
there).

Result of this effort is that I can now open Paint,

however,
I still get message "Wordpad has caused an error in
unknown. Wordpad will now close."

Any other suggestions to clear the error? How do you

think
I can get Wordpad to show up in the Windows Setup,
Accessories list?

Thanks for you help.

Many errors in Wordpad are fixed by removing this

key
in
the Registry
with Regedit:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre nt
Version\Applets\Wordpad
A restart may be necessary.
