Default WinXP Pro Laptop crashes Win98 Desktop--help!

Any ideas from you guys?

My new IBM laptop with WinXP Pro is networked through a wireless
Linksys router to my Desktop running Win98. The desktop connects to
the router via ethernet cable. I can see each computer from the
other, and I can access the internet from either--no problem there.

The problem is that most of the time, with the desktop running, when I
start the laptop and see the laptop connect to the network (ibm system
tray message), the desktop gives me the blue screen with the following
"fatal exception 0E 0028: EDA #######..." I often get the same blue
screen on the desktop when I place the laptop in standyby (close the
cover).

The problem persists regardless of what program I'm running on the
Win98 desktop. I've even tried closing all running programs on the
desktop except explorer and systray, but it will still crash most of
the time when the laptop enters or leaves the network.

Please help!!
