Default Ikernel stops responding during uninstallation

I've solved it. I've used the Add Remove Plus! 2004 to remove the entry from
the Add/Remove Program list and I was then able to proceed with the
installation.

However, it was actually a non-problem as I found nothing different from
when I've installed the dongle in the "improper" way.

Anyway, thanks.

It may actually be just some unnecessary insistence of mine.

I've before been able to use the Infrared dongle, but I recently read the
manual on the CD accompanying the dongle and found out that I haven't
installed it the right way, which was to run the setup first before

plugging
in the dongle. I have plugged it in and let win98se search for the

necessary
files.

So I now want to uninstall it and reinstall it in the proper way.

If I can't find a way to remove it, I may just plug it in and let win98se
install it again.

I do not know anything about "SigmaTel USB-IR Adapter".
Can you not just disable it in the start up or in your tasks lists?

Run MSCONFIG from the start/run applet and look under "StartUp tab" see

is
you can disable it from there. Then if all is ok set it up again.

Hello,

I have this idea:

So I have this "SigmaTel USB-IR Adapter" on the Add/Remove Program

list.
If
I'm able to remove this entry from the list, and to fool the setup

program
that accompanies the dongle not to know that I have previously

installed
it,
although in an improper way, before, I may then be able to proceed

with
the
installation.

Is this possible and how should I go about it?

Thanks in advance.

I am using win98se. And I actually think that I can still install

and
uninstall other programs. Only the uninstallation of this IrDA USB

Adapter
is causing me headaches.

So according to below, I should just delete the folder that holds

the
installshield files?? Will this affect other install/uninstall

programs?

TIA

You probably need to install the latest MS installation program.

Hello,

I have a SigmaTel IrDA USB adapter and have previously just

plugged
it
in
and let win98se try to search the necessary files for

installation.
I
have
recently learnt that this is not the right way, although the

IrDA
dongle
actually works as expected, as in allowing me to connect my cell

phone
to
the PC. I first remove the Infrared device from the Device

Manager.
Then
I
tried to uninstall the SigmaTel IrDA adapter from the Add/Remove
Program.
However, the uninstallation would stop after around 8%. Then I

pressed
ctrl-alt-del to end the process. When I tried to dismiss the
Add/Remove
Program, there was no response. So I pressed ctrl-alt-del again.

This
time,
an Ikernel showed up in the task list and it was not responding.

So
I
selected it and ended it. Then another dialog box came up:

Title: SigmaTel USB-IR Adapter
Message: Setup fails to run: Remote procedure call fails.

It is always this whenever I try to uninstall it again.

When I tried to run the setup program from the CD, it still

asked
me
if
I
wanted to uninstall, rather than letting me installing it over

the
original
files.

Any way to either:

1. enable me to uninstall the files; or
2. just to install the files over those already installed

previously.

Thanks in advance

Herbert
