I tried Opera first, it does nothing too. *I need to download a plug
in that really doesn't plug into anything - if anyone can explain that
to me, I'll try to NOT laugh in your face while you do it. *I can't
use software that just sits there and Opera 10.63 just sits there
forever. *Since I have KernelEx installed correctly, I can only assume
it's the MMX issue all over again. *It doesn't seem to run on my 98.
Nice try?

I have no idea about that. But I do know it works on W98 here, and I don't
have KernelEx. I don't add any plugins to it either, other than Flash. The
same Flash install that enabled Flash in Firefox 2 when I was using that.

Did you get Opera 10.63, or OperaUSB 10.63. There is a difference. The main
branch never really worked for me either, that's why I didn't say anything
about it. The USB version did work. Still does.

operausb1063en.zip Looks like USB version, I usually lurk pretty
good. But one problem may be my firewall. Zonealarm usually pops up
with an alert when something new is trying to get to the internet but
for Opera and Firefox as well, nothing happens and those programs are
NOT in the progams list so ZoneAlarm is NOT recognizing them nor
letting them out of the front yard to play. I'll try the last
ZoneAlarm for win98 and see if there is any difference in behavior and/
or NO zonealarm at all too. What do you guys use for a 98 firewall?

98 guy
I just got an oncology bill for $1,000 so trips to town won't be
happening any time soon and that $50 computer will have to go to
someone else, but I agree - that's the real solution here. And thanks
for the thought. The springs is closest at 100 miles, military town
and not a normal town at all. Best possible news is that the lab
didn't find anything bad going on.

My sister did give me an old XP box not even hers, it was just sitting
in the garage when she moved in, but I know almost nothing about it.
I'd prefer to keep it XP and use it to surf with if I beef up the
firewall. Apparently MS was pretty good about not letting stuff get in
but they have pretty much nothing stopping it from getting back out so
that door needs some real work according to grc.com - originators of
FREE zonealarm. So I'm not totally helpless, just too lazy to set it
all up the way I need it. XP in charge of a local peer to peer
network since XP can't join a network but will host one. And 98 in
the living room (where it's warm) running the XP box by remote
programs so I can surf the net with XP SP3 running the latest firefox
on it with comodo firewall and sharing download folders with my same
old clunker 98 box, I could live with that. Then I'll get the
wireless hi-speed antenna up about 40 feet and get that in gear too,
then I might be in a good humor once in a while. One dream at a time,
I guess. Local network first - zonealarm was the original problem
there and again no notice was popping up to let me know about it. I
only saw it after I pulled the NIC card to try the hi-speed set up and
then zonealarm made enough noises to make me drill on down and take a
much closer look and see that it was NEVER enabled for the NIC card
and NEEDED to be. So that's why no 98 ping! Doh! But not enough hi-
speed signal to go that route just yet, so we have to back off and
punt yet again. We'll get there, a tad bit late too, but somehow
we'll get there. I really would like a fast 98 box too, but it seems
to be the last item on a long list of things to do first. Thanks guys.
