Default Why???

Win Me was the start of the move away from DOS with limited or no support
for config.sys or autoexec.bat, NT based systems such as XP emulate DOS
and don't allow the same hardware access of Win 98SE and earlier. Win Me
is a bit of a half-way house in this respect.

win-ME is like any other opsys you just have to work within its
limits and use the proper drivers..

Never a truer word (or words) were spoken about Win Me than those.

We've been using win-ME since 1999 and the only problems we've ever
had were op error..

That sounds fair enough and supports my earlier comment that any problems
with Win Me experienced by the OP were more a reflection of his abilities
than the operating system.

Mike M, is it true that for persons using old DOS programs ME
was the last windows opsys that would support the old 6.6 ms-dos?
We run several older dos and win3.1 software packages for security
system control updating and several old CCTV programing packages.
The manufacturers of these packages all claim they will not update to
XP or Vista because of the expense.
