Never mind Noel. I forgot to install Ad-aware. After I
installed it and scanned the computer, the internet was
working again. Thanks a lot Noel.

Thanks again

I did everything that you told me to and I still get
those internet error messages.
"Explorer has caused an error in WINDEC32.DLL
Explorer will now close.
If you continue to experience problems, try restarting
your computer."

I don't have a virus scan software because I wasn't
sure
which one I should buy. Would the process still work
without the virus scan or would the problem reappear
if I
don't scan it?

-----Original Message-----
You may have a virus/spyware hijack

download the Stinger from here and run it to make

sure
that A-V-disabling
viruses are not present on your PC
http://download.nai.com/products/mcafee-
avert/stinger.exe

- update your virus scanner and run a full system

scan
of all files.

Reboot to Safe Mode and run CWShredder - to remove
variants of the
CoolWebSearch hijacker.
http://www.merijn.org/cwschronicles.html

Use CWShredder, the removal tool:
http://www.merijn.org/files/cwshredder.zip
http://www.merijn.org/files/CWShredder.exe

http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads...CWShredder.exe
http://www.zerosrealm.com/downloads/CWShredder.zip

download AdAware from www.lavasoftusa.com, install,
update, and run it to
remove spyware, adware,
and other such nasties from your system.

Thanks Noel, I installed the patch and hopefully
system
restore works now but I still have the internet
problem.
I don't know if this helps with the situation but
before
the whole event happened, my computer had a lot of
unwanted popups even if the browser wasn't open.
Please
help

Thanks

"system restore doesn't work for some weird

reason"
please expand on this - what error messages do

you
get
when attempting to
either create a new restore point, or roll back

to
an
existing one?

It's possible that you haven't installed the

System
Restore Patch - without
which any current restore points are just space
fillers.
To check this, look for the file
C:\Windows\System\SMGR.DLL - r-click on the
file, and select Properties.
What's the version number? - if it's v4.90.0.3003
then
you have installed
the patch, and we have to look elsewhere for the
problem
if it's v4.90.0.2533, then you need to install

the
patch.

To install the patch, either visit Windows
Update, or
go here, and download
the patch for offline install
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?
scid=kb;en-
us;Q290700
Run the installer, and windows should reset

System
Restore at the same time,
clearing your old restore points (which wouldn't
have
worked, anyhow), and
creating a single new one.
You should then reset the maximum allocation for
SR by
going to the
adjustment slider at System Properties |
Performance |
File System | Hard
Disk - most people find that 200-400MB is quite
sufficient for most
purposes, unless installing/uninstalling large
applications such as Office.

When I open "My Computer" or "My Documents", my
computer
takes a while to load the folders. It didn't

take
this
long before. Also the internet is much slower

and
occasionally the internet freezes or an error

box
appears
and forces the computer to close internet
explorer.
The
internet connection works because I can still

use
msn
messenger but something is wrong with the
browser. I
tried using Spybot and Ad-aware but it didn't
help
and
I
didn't want to delete any neccessary internet
files. I
can't restore the computer to a previous state
because
system restore doesn't work for some weird
reason.Before
scan disk wouldn't work but now it does. All of
this
started a few months ago and I haven't found

any
solutions yet. Please help.

Thanks
