Are you willing to consider replacing the MX440 with a modern, more powerful
card to see if that resolves the KB891711 problem?

I'm running a NVIDIA GeForce 4 MX440 with their latest driver on an
AMD K7 1.9 gig system, so I tend to agree with you, as that 'HotFix'
really screwed up my computer.
