Before you go too far with installing more (AV, AOL, etc., etc.) software,
maybe you should sort out the Normal Mode issue first!

CD ROM will not work in Safe Mode as you need the drivers installing - which
only happens in Normal Mode.

Just what errors are you seeing? - Please give exact error report messages.

an AV program while in safe mode? Seems CD drive on HP
Pavilion does not work in safe mode. Is this correct? I
can burn a CD with my system.
