| I don't recall which patch did it as it was well over a year ago--you
might
| be able to find out by searching in the Google newsgroup archives:
|
|
| Here is the essence of the article I referred you to:
|
| SUMMARY
| When you create a shortcut or program information file (PIF), the icon
that
| is generated has an arrow in the lower left corner. Microsoft Windows
has a
| registry setting called IsShortcut that causes this arrow to appear.
| MORE INFORMATION
| WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems
that
| may require you to reinstall Windows. Microsoft cannot guarantee that
| problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be
solved.
| Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
|
| NOTE: For information about how to edit the registry, view the Changing
Keys
| And Values online Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe). Note that
you
| should make a backup copy of the registry files (System.dat and
User.dat)
| before you edit the registry.
|
| If you do not want new shortcut icons to contain this arrow, use
Registry
| Editor to search for and remove the IsShortcut value from:
|
| HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\piffile

| | A security upgrade broke Tweak's ability to alter the shortcut
arrow.
| I
| | would remove all the shortcuts from the desktop and put them in an
easy
| to
| | access place on the start menu.
| |
| | http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=126631 This article tells how to
| remove
| | the arrow; however, be aware that it can also cause double entries
on
| the
| | right click context menu.

| | Hi,
| | After downloading latest upgrades from Microsoft web site, I'm not
| able
| to
| | change the shortcut arrows look anymore. I choose "light arrow"
with
| | TweakUI, but nothing happens.
| | Thanks if anyone can give me some advice here how to fix this
thing.
