Default iosubsys problem

Why is it that I've never heard of Dimension 8100's before - and all of a
sudden I get deluged with queries about them?? - this is the third in a
week!!!

Dell were the only manufacturer to buy into RAMBUS big-time - and they
quickly learned the error of their ways - with the result that users got
abandoned because their support knew SFA about it.

Your results with the catalyst drivers do suggest strongly that the problem
originates there - it may be worth going through the ATI site (I know they
have at least the last four builds of the drivers available for download!)
to see what you can find that works.

Hi Noel;
Cricket? To us Yanks, that's a totally incomprehensible game!
The good news is that setting usb emulation on gave me my mouse in safe
mode. The bad news is that system restore failed saying there are no
restore points available. I then did a scandisk and it said that
everything was good.
I deleted the WIN386.SWP files. The one in c:\ was 500 meg and the one
in c:\Windows was empty but I still can't boot normally.
Since it doesn't seem to be a memory problem, should I try to re-install
the original drivers that came with the machine (BTW, it's a 5 yr old Dell
Dimension 8100)?
