This is not doubting you but I have reason to believe you do not have =
the 2nd update mentioned installed. The "Windows help wizards" should =
not work thru any of Windows help. GG's workaround app should be the =
only way unless you have removed the kill bit from the registry =
yourself. If you have the 2nd update installed you will have the key =
mentioned below with the kill bit (name/data "value") present in the =
registry.
When GG's app is installed it is what is to be used for the tshoot =
wizards, not Windows Help. I thought he explained it in his text file =
included although now that I check he only mentions clicking the icon to =
run the wizards which may confuse some. Windows help should not be used, =
GG's app is what should be used to run the wizards when installed.

Ok now, after a good nights slumber I have:

Booted another 98SE machine which is fully updated and did not have =
GG's TShoot installed.
Tried the Windows tshoot wizards which failed.
Checked the registry for the ActiveX component kill bit which was =
present at:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX =
Components\{4B106874-DD36-11D0-8B44-00A024DD9EFF}
Name: Compatibility Flags
Data: 0x00000400 (1024)

Tried to run the Windows help tshoot wizards which failed.
Removed kill bit entry in registry and regain tshoot wizards, merged =
entry back into registry and tshoot wizards fail.
Install GG's tshoot.exe workaround.
Run GG's app and Windows wizards fail.
Run Windows help and wizards fail.
Right click tshoot.inf and install, both GG's app and Windows wizards =
fail.
Reboot.
GG's app now works, wizards successful and Windows help wizards fail.
With GG's app running, check registry entry for kill bit which is =
absent.
Shutdown GG's app, check registry and kill bit entry is present.

All works as should.

Reboot 98SE machine mentioned in last post.
Still no Wizards with either GG's app or Windows help.
Run tshoot.inf install, check wizards which fail.
Reboot, all is working as should. GG's app controls the registry entry =
to remove the kill bit when run and replace when closed.
Running " Windows help wizards" (not GG's) still fail.

I never thought a reboot was required and don't believe I had to do it =
on the first 98SE when I originally installed GG's app, yet it appears =
this is the case now. Stymies me a little but that's how it all went =
down. It now makes me wonder if one has to go thru the re-install of =
tshoot.inf, then install GG's app and reboot at some point to gain =
functionality due to a later update? For now I've done what I'm going =
too as the wizards/GG's app work (or don't) as they should/shouldn't.

BTW, both 98SE machines were updated using the Security update CD and =
finished at the MS Update site. Can't see why but perhaps this method =
has something to do with it. I do have one more 98SE machine available =
to test that does not have GG's app and is fully updated ONLY from the =
MS Update site.=20

Perhaps Glen has some insight on this.=20
