Thank you, Gary. That justifies my experience.

Mind if I clarify a bit?

Network Neighborhood in 98 is My Network Places in XP. Not what Sandi is
talking about. What Sandi is talking about is the equivalent of the Network
applet in Control Panel, and no, there's no option to show an icon in the
Tray. That option would be a specific property of the network adapter, and
there is none such available. Such functionality is only available for
Dial-Up adapters.

(Hi Sandi!)

It may be the option is not available in Win98; its been so long since I
used that OS that I can't be sure.

Having used Win98SE many years and never noticed this "network

connection
icon", I too am intrigued. Is this the Network Neighborhood icon? If so,
displaying properties shows no such option. I'd be most grateful if you
could
be more specific?

No software required - its an online test.

You are using Win98 yes? You need to find your network connection icon,
right click, select properties, and see if you can turn on an option to
view
the connection in the systray; its been so long since I used Win98 I
can't
remember for sure.. I will have access to a Win98 PC so will have a

look.
