First time I ran into that was with a 2.4 GHz celeron machine. Tried to
install 98 FE on it. It was quite some time ago. The only fix was a
copy of Millenium edition version of ndis.vxd floating around on the
internet. It worked fine despite warnings from others.

iirc the warnings were valid, but these days since the correct one for FE
is freely available on the web then might as well use that one.
