Default need help please!!!! on win 98 himem.sys is missing

Yes, maybe... Using a "cross-over" cable is possible with Win98. But it's a
real pain to implement, and made much more problematic when trying to
implement it on an "ailing" machine.

What is a *MUCH* more important consideration is that if there are any
malware/viruses active on the ailing machine, networking is going to prove
much more dangerous to the healthy machine than simply swapping the drives
as we've already suggested.

Are you posting from some other computer? If so, I would remove the

drive
from the ailing computer and temporarily hook it up to the ribbon

cable
that
goes to your CDRom drive on the other PC. Then you could use

Explorer
to
transfer the files from the old drive to the other drive or you can

burn
a
CD if the other PC has a burner.

Hi Ron,
Thanks for your help! I tried doing this last night but it kept
telling giving me an error file does not exist. I was able to get

into
Windows in normal mode for a split second before the screen just

turned
white and would not do anything else. When trying to restart

using
ctrl alt del it says "msvgr32 not responding". I just need to

back up
my files to a cd then I want to completely reformat the computer,

but
when in safe mode it does not recognize my D drive.

If
it
doesn't, please post back; however, I don't believe that you have

posted
the
error message verbatim--please do so and watch for spelling

errors.

My computer shut down on me last night in the middle of

recording
(i
use cakewalk 9). I tried starting it back up and got this

message

error occured himem.sys is missing

after loading the recover cd, i was able to start back up in

safe
mode.
Luckily my wav files were not missing. The only thing I want

to do
is
back my files up to a cd but it won't even let me do that and

if i
were
to go into normal mode, the computer screen hust turns white.

HELP!!!!! PLEASE!!!!
