Yes, Noel, on a VM. Makes it a breeze, doesn't it! Though what happened was
I did the Advanced IE6 install, downloading the entire Win Me version to
disk then installing, and on reboot there was an error (which I didn't
bother to note) and I got IE version soup.
I tried repair, but was told to run Setup again; I ran Setup again - from
the Update CD .iso - but it made no difference. So I used IEradicator,
*then* reinstalled from the CD. Then went back to WU, thus had to do the IE
updates again, which is why I presume there were so many duplicates in the
log. So I removed the earlier copies as obviously it is fine to run the IE
updates later.
And I couldn't be arsed to save changes to the .vhd along the way, so it
wasn't as easy as just deleting undo disks and going back one square. Plus,
of course, I already have a patched Win Me .vhd and was planning on just
deleting them once done anyway!
Actually, put that way it looks like more work than I claim. But getting
sidetracked is a personal thing, isn't it; I'm doing it for me, being an
obsessive.
First, I tried running the IE6Setup from XP - to do the Advanced version
where, as you know, you get the option of downloading for other OSes, I
thought it would be allowed from XP, but it wasn't. But I kind of expect
pretty much everyone to have a full copy of IE6 on some CD or other anyway.
Plus, of course, we can download the full version easily enough (but I don't
plan going hunting the locations, though I daresay oldversion/oldapps have
it. Possibly SAC too - they could drop one from one of their B52's!).
