Default Can't read Windows 98se drive on Win Me system

You didn't look close enough--ME is directly above W98 in the community
newsgroup list Here's general info.

ME cannot use NTFS partitions. When you are booting with ME as the active
drive, is the BIOS recognizing the second drive? How do you have the drives
connected: what devices are on what cables and how are the jumper pins set?

Not sure if this is the correct discussion group or not for this question,

but I didn't see a Windows Me community. I hope someone can still help me.

I recently installed Windows Me on a new 80 Gb drive, and wanted my

original Win98se drive as a second drive on the system. I tried connecting
the 98 drive every way I can think of, and I still can't read a single file
or folder on it when I'm in WinMe.

Fdisk sees a primary DOS partition (about 1/2 used) on the Windows 98se

drive. And, the Win98se drive boots fine when it's the primary master. I've
checked the pin configurations on both drives, and experimented with
different combinations of drive connections to the MB. I also tried putting
the 98se drive in a different computer (also running WinMe), and still can't
read it.

I wonder, does WinMe use NTFS by default? As long as none of the drives on

the system are NTFS, I should be able to read them all. But, the 98se drive
is behaving like it's an NTFS drive on a non-NTFS system. I'd converted the
98se drive from Fat16 to Fat32 awhile ago. (However, the drive previously
had an NTFS Windows 2000 partition on it.) I should see NTFS listed beside
the 98se drive in Fdisk if it still has an NTFS partition, right? Is there
any chance (or any way to check to see if) there's some residual NTFS setup
in the boot sector of the 98se drive?

What's the problem? Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!!
