Default Change Screen Colors

You are welcome. It's a perilous thing to fool with! Three days/nights
weren't enough for me to get it exactly right! Even if you follow
thanatoid's suggestion-- better open up SIX apps to see what it does to
each! Or you'll end up nearly as batty as he must be!

Thanks or Good Luck,
There may be humor in this post, and,
Naturally, you will not sue,
should things get worse after this,

| I don't know whether there is an URL for it. "Windows 98 Secrets"
| (Livington/Straub) have a bundle of scattered pages on it, mainly
| pp.848-850. They DID print warnings, but they weren't enough for me.
| Once/twice I DID try to micro-manage inside the "Item" dropdown
menu.
| You must have SIX applications open at once to do that, BECAUSE the
| same
| item may affect them in different ways. You may end up with
invisible
| text somewhere! Also, playing with icon spacing can squeese them
atop
| each other &/or push them off the screen entirely! It is safer by
far
| to
| use Desktop Themes or Schemes...!...
|
| To install Desktop Themes, if they are not already in the Control
Panel
| or in the START menu...
| 1. START, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Windows
Setup
| tab.
| 2. Check "Desktop Themes"; click "Details"; check the themes you
want;
| "OK" twice.
| 3. Perhaps, re-boot.
|
| Some themes require "high color". To get "high color":
| 1. Right click the Desktop & select Properties
| 2. Click the "Settings" tab
| 3. Use the "Colors" dropdown menu to select "high color"
| 4. Be prepared. It may ask your permission to restart the
computer.
|
| I understand that's best; however, it can also be done at: "R-Clk
| Desktop, Properties, Appearance tab, & select a different 'Scheme'
in
| the dropdown selector". This will also get the fonts, colors, et al,
| right, across applications, without trying to micro-manage inside
the
| "Item" dropdown menu, which one may live to regret.
|
| The main thing I still do in that Item dropdown menu is to adjust
the
| colors of the Active/Inactive Title bars. I like to have them change
on
| a gradient.
|
|
|
| Thanks, PCR
