Default Can't re-install CD-RW

If hot plugging the CD-RW drive results in PNP identifying a " 'USB
Cable" attached to a SCSI controller", it may mean the firmware in the
drive is incorrect.
I recommend obtaining a replacement drive to test.

You can also test by Rebooting to Safe Mode and removing the drive in
Device Manager. Then use the Add New Hardware wizard to direct the
installation of the correct driver from a floppy or a CD. However, if
the drive insists on being identifed as the USB cable, it will fail
again.


the "USB-WinMe.exe file", it is self-installing. Just run it and
all should be well, for USB 1.1.

PS: Do you know of a way to make Windows just 'keep'

devices instead of re-finding them at every power-up ?

You may not be able to reboot with the device plugged

find a newer driver.

Experiment to see if you can hot plug it successfully

after completely
booting. Confirm that you have the correct driver

installed and that
all USB devices are UnMarked in Device Manager. If USB

2.0, the needed
software will be with your interface card or the

external
drive.
If USB 1.1, you may wish to reinstall the drivers, at

download
"usb-WinMe.exe" , which contains WinMe's USB 1.1
