Windows 98 SE. 450Mb Pentium 2. 168 Mb Ram. 4 Gb Hard
drive. 750 Mb free space.

My wife messed up my computer. She set about opening up
every zip file on my C drive looking for pics (the pics ar
eof our Daughter and Grandchildren, not porno!)
Unfortuanately she got into some zip files that were not
pics - self extract, downloaded programs waited to be
CORRECTLY installed and tried, and my back up registry. In
the space of a coupe of hours she'd opened about 1000 pics
and then the PC froze. Now when it is rebooted it stops
after log on and gives an error message
Explorer
This program has performed an illegal operation and will
shut down.

Explorer caused an invalid page fault in module
EXPLORER.EXE at 0167:00401f31 etc.

If I press close, it just leaves the background color, no
desktop and does nothing. If I press my reset button, it
ends up going through scandisk and goes to safe mode, but
stops at the same error message.

My computer does not have in internet connection, and
hasn't had for 5 weeks. My anti virus found nothing. I
have used Spybot Search and Destroy since the last time I
connected to the internet.

My son home schools on this computer, and his work for
last few weeks has no back up, so I am concerned about
reformatting. Need to get important files 1.5 Mb plus from
C drive at least before formatting.

I tried reloading Windows from the CD. I even deleted
Explorer.exe and then reloaded Windows. I am unable to
find some of the zip files she was opening because they
are in "Temporary Internet Folder" and DOS soesn't see it.

Please help.

Thank you for your time.

Is there any way to get around this through DOS?
