Default Win 98SE and USB hub setup

this true under XP also btw. It's still just the one driver. Also, no
problems using same port for different devices. I plug/unplug without regard
to which port I use. This is true regardless of using my 4 port external usb
hub on a 98SE pc with only two onboard ports or any of the six onboard ports
on my XP pc.

I am running windows 98SE. When I use my USB hub I find that if I do
not plug the same device into the exact same USB hub's outlet the
hardware add wizard comes up to install the driver. Can I have
multiple drivers assigned to the same outlet on the hub? So I can use
the same outlet for more than one device? If I want to change and
reorder the outlets I use for different devices do I need to uninstall
the current driver at that outlet before installing a new driver for a
different device? Or when it installs the new driver does it overwrite
(delete) the old one?

As far as I've observed that behavior is normal for any USB port...

Why not just color code the ports rather than go through the reinstall
software routine?

I am not questioning whether it is normal or not. I wanted to know if
I could use one port for more than one device. And if so will I need
to install the driver each time I switch devices for that device. And
or if I reorder the devices to the ports do I need to uninstall the
current driver before installing the new one?- Hide quoted text -

What did you mean when you said btw? "Found this true under XP also
