What do you mean, "the time and date functions won't stay after reboot"?
Please describe that in more detail. I'm not sure what you mean.

Replacing the CMOS battery should have reverted BIOS to defaults, including
no password. There is also likely a jumper located near the CMOS battery
that can be used to clear CMOS, but you really want to review motherboard
documentation if you're going to do that.

Any idea what make/model computer, or make/model of the motherboard?

Hi I have been given a computer running win98 se. I was told that all
info
was deleted from the hard drive by way of fdisk and format.Win98se was
installed but the time and date fuctions won't stay after reboot, even
with
a new cmos battery. I can't get to the bios because it keeps asking for a
password that I don't have. any ideas please.
