What - as opposed to GWB, who assumed that everyone was cannon-fodder for
the arms cartels? (while having a rather dubious ,military past himself).
The idiots that have 'governed' the UK for the past 30 years have been
little more than glove-puppets for the US administration, and had almost no
concept of the idea of independence. The idea of the UK as the 51st)or is it
now 52nd?) state of the US has never been closer. I'd much rather have 'the
big O' than 'the burning Bush' as a potential leader of 'the Western World'
(please note the careful use of quotes and capitals!)
I'm a firm believer in minimalist government - but governments by nature
will always attempt to govern the maximum they can. At some point the
ability of the governments to control what they are attempting to govern
breaks down - and the result is chaos. The recent carnage in the banking
system worldwide is a good example of this, in that the US (with the largest
deficit in the world) decided that unfettered credit was 'A Good Thing' - at
least until it ran out - and the UK then decided that it couldn't be left
behind in the lemming-race over the cliff. The 'Economic Miracle-worker' who
made that decision is now making similar decisions over the use of what
little nuclear deterrence the UK still possesses..... I doubt that anyone
except the poor b%st$rds who actually have their fingers on the buttons
really realise what that could mean!

Obama has demonstrated a sufficient lack of concern for Constitutional
issues to worry me. I don't expect him to reverse the most egregious
trampling of our rights instigated by his predecessor. Rather, I expect
him
to expand on those transgressions of our rights, reducing our liberties
significantly. He is much better suited for a government which regards its
citizens as "subjects"; as chattel to be used, and discarded, by the
ruling
elite.
