Default file download box, downloads in binary code

Most things I can download with no problem. But
this "file download" box appears just for certain
documments either on a web page or maybe an email
attachment. It says "you have chosen to download a file
from this location." Then it gives the name of the file.
Example: "calander.pdf from www.beatricepublicschools.org"
Then it asks "what would you like to do with this file?"
And then you check either "Open this file from its
location" or "save this file to disc"
It has "OK, "Cancel," and "More info" buttons at the
bottom. And anything I save originating from this box
comes back to me in binary code. Any ideas? Any help
appreciated. Bob K.

Any documents I download from the "File Download" box

are
in binary code. It doesn't matter if I save to a disc or
open in current location. how do I get it to read plain
english. All other downloads are fine. Its just the file
download box. Any help appreciated.
