Sorry about the plethora of messages - I'll calm down soon!
During the recent upgrade of my old laptop to 98SE I think I remember
seeing a message relating to audio devices somewhere along the line, but I
can't remember the details.
After the installation, "PCI multimedia audio device" was listed as
non-functional in the Device Manager, and I couldn't play audio CDs.
I tried to rectify the situation via the Properties Update Driver route,
but I and/or the system couldn't find one.
I then had a look at the driver CD that came with the laptop, and it does
indeed contain an audio section (Crystal CS4280 to be precise), complete
with a Setup file, which I executed.
However, something has gone wrong in the sense that "PCI multimedia audio
device" is no longer listed as non-functional in the Device Manager, *but*
every time I reboot the Found New Hardware Wizard comes up, looking for
"PCI multimedia audio device" drivers!
See http://homepage.ntlworld.com/herb.ep...nimfurious.gif
There are thousands of Google hits for "PCI multimedia audio device" and
more then 100 for "crystal audio setup", but I can't quite make sense of
it.
Any suggestions?
Thank you.
