Well, I did disable onboard sound and had no sound at
all. Guess that's a good thing.

I do have updated drivers and I'll remove all Multimedia
in safe mode, disable onboard sound and re-introduce
drivers.

My BLA showed the longest delay after onboard sound
disabled @ 23.XX or 2.3 seconds. Still took forever for
system tray to load volume control, callwave, AVG, spyware
guard, lexmark printer, zone alarm.

Why so slow when no delays?

Sorry for the delayed response. Thanks for your help.

KB, as you don't mention a PCI card in your reply, I must

ASS-U-ME that you
have on-board audio on your motherboard (Not all mobo's

do!!) and is
currently enabled (working)

If so, look under Advanced settings in your BIOS for

Peripheral
Configuration and you should find some reference to it

e.g. OnBoard AC'97
Audio which will give you an enable/disable option.

The exact wording and setting location may vary between

different mobo and
BIOS manufacturers. Check your User Manual.

BTW - Be sure that you've still got the original (or

better still, latest
WinMe) audio drivers for your mobo (usually/often

supplied on a separate
Driver CD)

Good luck

Mart

Thanks for the feedback, Mart.

I haven't gotten a chance to do what you've suggested

but
will do so in the next day or so.

Where in the BIOS would I find the on-board audio?

Thanks again, Mart. I'll let you know how things turn

out.

KB, as the majority of your delays appear to be

associated with your sound
card/on-board audio, I would suggest that you first

try 'Removing' ALL
'Sound, video and game controllers' in Device Manager in

Safe Mode.

Then either (temporarily) remove PCI sound card or

disable on-board audio
(in BIOS)

Re-boot into Normal mode and see if things improve.

Then - depending upon the results - re-introduce your

sound device and its
(WinMe) drivers.

Good luck

Mart

Thanks, Mart. I've sorted the log by duration and

have
attached it below. The long delays appear to be

related
to the audio. One thing that appears unusual is
the "Removed Client for Microsoft Networks" part. No
networks on this machine.

Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again, Mart.

KB,

To be going on with, look at the 'Duration' column and
look for an event (or
events) taking 'hundreds' of seconds, instead of
fractions or several
seconds. (5 mins = 300 seconds) N.B to sort your list
in 'Duration' - just
click the Duration bar.

You've got issues with those values typically in the

high
hundreds/thousands.
e.g. 14:33:52 2539.11 Enumerated Alcatel Speed
