Default Can't read Windows 98se drive on Win Me system

I have reported that blank spot to MS.

If you want to use the internet interface (UGH) to access newsgroups, then
go he http://support.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.aspx

Clicking on Windows will display WinME.

However, I would configure OE so you can use it to subscribe to newsgroups
you are interested in: tools, accounts, add news. You can use the MS
server: msnews.microsoft.com and do not list a valid email address or
you will get bombarded with spam/virus.

I know you have tried different configurations; however, it is easy to
forget steps when you are frustrated. I would do this. Put your ME drive
on the primary EIDE cable and the SE drive on the secondary EIDE cable.
Leave all other drives disconnected until the problems are worked out.

Check on the web site of the drives' makers for the correct jumper pin
settings (unless you have written documentation on it). I have seen jumper
pin settings that are different for a drive that is the sole device on a
cable versus being the master device of two drives. If your PC uses cable
select, make sure the drives are located properly (master is the end
position, slave is the center).

Make sure the drives are properly recognized in the BIOS.

Make sure the ME drive is set as active. Check with fdisk and make sure
both drives are recognized and that the partitions are correct.

Boot. If you still cannot see the second drive:

1. Do you have Tweak UI installed? If so, go to My Computer tab and put
marks in all drives.

2. Check for a lastdrive statement in the config.sys file and if it exists,
make sure it reads: lastdrive=z

3. Run regedit.exe and open it to this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Setup

In the right pane, look for a last drive statement and if it is present,
make sure it reads "Z"

4. Control panel, system, performance tab: is there any comment about
MSDos compatibility mode?

On my computer, when I go to the newsgroup link for Win9x

Communities(http://www.microsoft.com/technet/com...ups/desktopos/
win9x.mspx), the Windows Millenium category is blank.

Yes, the second drive is recognized in POST. And as I said, I've tried

connecting the drives in a variety of configurations, all with the same
result. I tried putting them on the same cable, Win98se-primary master,
WinME-primary slave (pins correct for each). I tried putting them on
separate cables, Win98se-primary master, WinME-secondary master (and pins
correct for each). The same result with each.

I'll try the links you mentioned. Thanks!
