If you can't modify a file in the fake DOS window or anywhere
else in Windows, you could still use a bootable Linux distro
such as SystemRescueCD to access the drive using the ntfs-3g
driver. I think there might even be limited DOS programs for
accessing and (to some extent) modifying NTFS partitions. Of
course, it would be best to have a backup in case things go
wrong.
