Default Not enough memory, it says...

You asked earlier about reinstalling Win Me over itself. Since you
haven't felt the need to install any updates then you have nothing to
lose by doing this. Damage is done only if the user has updated their
system such as having installed IE6 or WMP9 and special procedures need
to be taken to remove these components before reinstalling the OS. The
same also applies to XP but the components involved differ somewhat.

Boot Win Me and then run setup.exe from the folder containing BASE2.CAB.

I am intrigued at your saying that your DOS program won't work in XP
whereas it does in Win Me since Win Me like XP doesn't strictly run DOS
as such but am guessing that it is closer than XP's cmd.exe

One solution you may wish to consider if running XP Pro rather than Home
is to use VPC (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/vir.../default.mspx),
now free, and to run Win Me or even DOS 6.22 or whatever in a virtual
machine on XP.

Mike, I am very much intrigued by the Virtual PC idea,
and have bookmarked the link, and printed out the document.
As a scientist, and having worked with APL for 30+ years, with its
Virtual Workspaces, I think I know the concept. Whether I would
ever be able to unravel all that is probably involved with that
software, is another question. For now, as I mentioned to Ron, I
have backed down from ME to WIN 98 and am hoping to be able to
solve the problems there. You get a Triple A-Plus for your efforts,
but the time came to back away from our impasse,at least pro tem.
