Default Missing System Tools/Internet Tools Files

Haggis has re-posted PCR's reply from that thread in this thread....can you see
that?

quote
This NG will be here a long, long time, by Terhune's word. THIS is where
they all will return TO, after XP burns to a crisp of it's own radiation!

Forget the Compression Agent! Get a larger hard drive, if you need more
space!

You should be able to get Microsoft Chat and Internet Publishing back from
Windows Setup. Where does the following go wrong...?...

(1) "Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Windows Setup tab".
(2) Double-Click "Communications" for Microsoft Chat 2.5.
(3) Put a checkmark in it's box, & click OK.
If already checked, uncheck it & OK out. Then, go back in, & check it.
(4) Double-Click "Internet Tools"... Internet Publishing looks like it is
named "Web Publishing Wizard" there. Take "Personal Web Server", as well.

I don't see where Net Meeting is. I have a folder FULL of it, though...
"C:\Program Files\NetMeeting", & the executable is CONF.EXE. I THINK you may
find it at "START button, Windows Update" in the optionals.

I don't see System Information in there, either. Try...

(1) "START, Run, SFC"
(2) Bolt "Extract one file from installation disk"
(3) Enter "MSINFO32.EXE" in the "Specify..." box.
(4) Click "Start".
(5) It should offer to Save file in...
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSINFO.
If not, make it so.
(6) In "Restore from", if not already pre-filled, browse to
(a) Installation CD (likely the Win98 folder) or
(b) The folder that has your cabs on the hard drive, likely
"C:\WINDOWS\options\cabs\".
(7) Click "OK"

Finally, go to that folder, & create a shortcut to "MSInfo32" onto the
Desktop. You may then R-Drag it to the QuickLaunch Bar or onto the START
menu.

Glenn, I’m sorry, but I only see one reply to my original two questions
posted yesterday under the title of “98SE System Information. If the answer
to my following question is posted somewhere else please give me the title
and date of the post so I can search it. Well, I got everything working
except now when I open up System Information, “ the window is blank and a
heading that says “Cannot Display Information and under that “The component
which displays this information is not functioning properly, or is not on
this machine. Also, everything in the Tools drop down list works except “Dr.
Watson. Can you or anyone else help?

Thanks, Bob

Nope, it's your thread, and you've had two replies from PCR and one from
Gary Terhune, all made yesterday. PCR has given a lot of suggestions in his
second reply. You must be using the gawd-awful web interface to attempt to
view your thread, instead of using a newsreader, such as Outlook Express.

Glee, You may have me confused with someone else, I checked out my first
thread (98SE System Information) this morning, there are only three

entries
and two are my questions. I wouldn't have asked these questions again if I
got the answers I needed to solve the problem. I would really appreciate
yours or someone’s time here to help me solve these issues.

Thanks, Bob

Please go back to your original thread, where you already asked all

these questions
and received a number of replies.

The MSINFO32.EXE (System Information) is nowhere on my computer. There

is
also another missing file in "System Tools", it is Compression Agent.

In the
Programs/Accessories/Internet Tools link there are three files

missing,
Microsoft Chat, Net Meeting and Internet Publishing. How do I extract

these
missing files from my 98SE CD and what folder do they get installed

in? Also
where are they on the CD and how do I identify these files? Can you

also tell
me if this 98SE Newsgroup and the 98SE Knowledge Base will be

discontinued
when Microsoft ends support for 98SE in July?

Thanks, Bob
