Best you can do in 98 is to create a Registry Backup.
When you want to create a backup just use Start - Run and enter
SCANREGW /BACKUP
Note that this will result in the deletion of the oldest of the 5
existing registry backups. These backups are normally created on the
first bootup of each calendar day by the "Scan Registry" item in the
Startup configuration, and Windows automatically maintains a library
of the 5 most recent backups. Also if your computer is not booted up
on any specific day (e.g. left running 24/7) then no additional
registry backups will be created until the system is rebooted.
