On systems less than around 6-8 years old, screensavers do very little in
terms of preventing 'burn-in' - yes, there may be some limited benefit to
the system *IF* the system is on a single screen all day (and night) - but I
would generally expect the monitor to die before the burn-in became annoying
on any 'general user' system. The only real use for screensavers may be in a
CAD/CAM situation - where I generally recommend that the monitor is set to
go to standby - but since ME was never designed for such use, it's very
unlikely that you will come across this situation.
I say again - what screensaver were you using? - the 'Science' one is known
to have issues with a number of circumstances - I really do recommend that
it be uninstalled, rather than just disabled.
The 'Plus' package was originally published for Win 95 - and it took some
fiddling to get it to work properly with Win 98SE. Something that old should
be expected to have issues when you're trying to use it on a generation of
software three-times removed from its purpose!!
DETAILS help - at least then I can attempt to replicate the problem, and
have some idea what you're seeing.

never seen this one before. On a fully updated, fine-running Windows

system, with Active Desktop "On" and a colorful personal picture as
background, the screensaver just died a few days ago, and even though
it

'on' does not kick in. I can force it by doing the "Preview" function
under
Display Properties, but will not go on its own.
I'm out of ideas.
We ARE using a scheme.... one of the sporty ones with a lot of color.
