Windows 95 OSR2 ---------------------^^^^^^^^^^^

Are you mixing Windows versions?

No I'm not. That's what I thought. About the first thing I did was
uses Device Manager to uninstall this.

OK, but where did it come from? Are there other files on your HD with
the same date stamp?

Are there any real mode drivers in your config.sys?

I'll check the config.sys, but have to swap disks, first. I wonder how
I can tell if a driver is a real mode driver.

Is there any driver in your config.sys, eg a CD-ROM driver?

Do you have any unformatted partitions on your HD(s)?

Are there any "NOIDE" entries in your registry?

I guess I'll check that. I don't know much about the registry or how
to check it. Do I use regedit or something like that?

Yes, use regedit and search for NOIDE, or try this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\VxD\IOS
