I will try to contact them today at work when I have a moment (at
1-800-305-2204), but does anyone have any suggestions in case they
can't help? The packaging says Win98SE not supported (though the
website says differently), but I'm concerned that they'll say they
can't help me because of that.

I've used two different makes of USB Hubs with Win 98 and 98SE.
Windows already supports USB, and they are backward compatible, so you
don't need to download drivers for them. Have you tried unplugging
it, and removing it in Device Manager and letting Windows re-install
it? Have you tried it on another computer? Could be you fried it
when you had the printer and flash drive incident.

Check out USBMAN.com for some useful information. Hope some of this
helps.


Thanks for the help. I'll look into it. Despite the generic drivers
in Win98SE, I don't seem to get consistent use out of the new 7-port.
The 4-port is consistently good.

I'll see if disconnecting and re-connecting works.


Well, I've tried every little bit that I know to do. I disconnected
and reconnected everything, removed from Device Manager, etc., and
and the 4-port consistently works whereas the 7 doesn't. Despite lack
of fireworks or sparks, etc. g, the 7-port may indeed have been
fried. I bought it with an extended warranty and have the receipt and
packaging so will return and replace. I may decide to just get
another like the consistent 4-port brand even though I would
ultimately be 3 ports the loser. I know I don't use all 11 ports esp.
at once, naturally, but I like how I can park my MP3 player and my
phone tools for when I use these which avoids damaged cords from all
the connecting/disconnecting to a fewer number of free ports g.

Anyway, have also made sure the USB flash drive is on a different hub
from the printer. That may help even though I plan to never print
directly from it again! g The flash drive is just my backup tool
between office and home anyway so everything that is on it eventually
ends up on the HDD. Must just wait till what I want to print is on
the computer instead.
