Default I'm deaf!

I followed Delboy's advice. On restart it says it found new hardware
and can't find the driver.

It really would have helped if you had included that detail in your
previous post. All you need do now then is download and install the
necessary audio driver for your sound card/chip.

The best free tool for checking what hardware you have installed has just
been withdrawn (Everest Home from Lavalys) so the best that I can advise
is that you download and run the Belarc Adviser from
(http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html) and see if this can identify
your hardware. If that fails, download and install the free AIDA32 from
Aumha (http://www.aumha.org/freeware/freeware.htm specifically
http://www.aumha.org/downloads/aida32.zip). This is the predecessor of
Everest and may also help you.

Before following Delboy's advice the driver in the "sound, video and
game controllers" section had a nice big yellow question mark and
said that the driver needed to be reinstalled.

I have the Windows Me installation CD, but nothing for any other
drivers.

Where do I look to find out what audio chip I have?
