I recently started experiencing a blue screen with the following when
starting up certain applications. It occurs for example when I start
Windows Media Player. Is click on the icon to start the app and a blue
screen appears saying:

A fatal exception OE has occurred at 0028:C1B01B7D in VXD APIX(01) +
00002979. The current application will be terminated. etc.

I then hit enter to return to my desktop, I click on WMP icon again and
everything is fine.

This only occurs with certain apps. Word97, Excel97 Quicken for
example present no problem. I am running on Windows98 Second Edition.

I would appreciate any input as to what might be going on and where I
can begin to address this problem
