You also need to re-install your motherboard chipset drivers.

I've been using Win98 for several years now, off and on. It was originally
installed on a machine that had an EPoX motherboard, an 8KTA3 Pro with 512
Meg . My video card was(and is) an ABIT Siluro T200, using an Nvidia
Geoforce chip. In this installation, the card ran fine, giving me whatever
resolution and color depth I wanted.

Unfortunately, the original motherboard died, and was replaced with a SOYO
Dragon Plus K7VX4L. All of the peripheral cards are the same as before.
Besides the new mobo, there is now 1024 Meg of RAM and a new 17" monitor.
I
found when I tried to boot up after replacing the mobo that Win98 suffered
from severe driver confusion, as I expected it would, and so concluded the
easiest thing to do would be to reinstall Win98 and all drivers.

I blew away my Windows system and reinstalled from the original CD.
Installation seemed to go okay, and the system came up in 640x480, 16
colors, as I expected . I then installed the ABIT Nvidia drivers that came
with the card, the exact same ones I installed with the original mobo.
When
I rebooted, Win started to boot, then locked. When I went into safe mode
and
removed the Nvidia drivers, then rebooted, it came up with no problem.

I've since updated the drivers from the manufacturer to the latest rev.,
and
it still locks after I install them. As it stands now, Win98 will only
run(outside of safe mode) when the display is set as a standard VGA with
16
colors, with no other video drivers installed. Can anyone provide some
insight into what could be causing the lockup, and perhaps suggest a cure?
Thanks in advance.
