Default Spybot

Also a-squared can be run from a usb stick:
http://download1.emsisoft.com/a2usb.zip (as indeed can Spybot and
SpywareBlaster - you just copy their program files contents over less
certain components, such as uninstall information or in Spybot's case quite
a bit more. If interest is shown I'll post a list of the files required to
run SpywareBlaster and Spybot from a usb thumb drive).

Spybot S&D is useful for the potentially-preventative Immunize
feature, but as for removing serious threats it is not very good. I
too stopped using it on WinMe a long time ago because it took so too
run - though as this is in a Virtual PC .vhd it may have a specific
incompatibility with that rather than WinMe per se.

SpywareBlaster does not scan or fix but is a very good prophylactic.

Both MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware do a better job than Spybot
S&D at removing serious threats.

Given the problem with Spybot you're posting about, I suggest you
give up on it. None of them are needed with a modicum of good sense
surfing the net and installing stuff anyway rather than the blind
panic that seems to be what motivates the typical anti-malware advice
poster here.
However, with an officially supported Windows version I would still
say, yes, use MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware for the occasional
scan, because you can. But neither run on any 9x version.

Also there is A-Squared (being renamed Emisoft AntiMalware - or
something along those lines) but it won't run on 9x either - and does
not seem 100% Windows 7 compatible, for what that is worth.

You could run the portable version of SuperAntiSpyware from a USB
thumb drive, but one would ideally want USB 2.0 as well as a high
speed drive. And the portable version does not autorun (of course)
nor does it update (you have to download a fresh copy which includes
the latest definitions:
http://www.superantispyware.com/portablescanner.html).

Hopefully you folks have an answer
Spybot starts daily at 1:00am
Recently, still running 8-9 hours later
Click 'Stop Check'
Reads - "Thread Error: The parameter is incorrect (87)"
I uninstalled and reinstalled it deleting any leftover registry keys
Ran task
Stopped task about 10 minutes later
Reads - "Thread Error: The parameter is incorrect (87)
Could not find a good answer doing a Google search

New problem only the last few days

What to do... any ideas?

TIA!
